Khaberni - A recent scientific study concluded that there are 4 ways that can lead to strengthening the mind, enhancing cognition, and activating brain function, which can potentially protect a human from cognitive decline and prevent diseases like dementia, Alzheimer's, and other brain performance-related diseases in later stages of life.
A report published by "Psychology Today", reviewed by "Alarabiya.net", about a newly published research paper, stated that there are four easy and simple strategies that can enhance brain function and prevent diseases related to it, such as dementia and Alzheimer's.
The study compared two training programs, where participants (with an average age of 68 years) were randomly assigned to an organized training program and another self-directed one. The training itself included a series of lifestyle changes and activities known from previous research to address cognitive decline.
The scientists say that cognitive decline occurs partly due to a lack of physical fitness; specifically, it is related to heart health, as the brain needs blood, and without it, brain cells die. The function of the heart is to provide this blood, so when a person is physically fit, it gives their heart the best possible chance to perform this function.
The researchers in the new study concluded that activating the brain and combating diseases associated with it could be achieved through the following strategies and methods:
First: Commit to a healthy diet, where the (MIND) website provides comprehensive coverage of the components of this healthy diet, offering individual meal plans based on your age, health, and preferences.
Second: Incorporate aerobic exercises and resistance activities into your day, as in the group subjected to the study, participants trained in local gyms, yet these exercises were very simple, being medium to high-intensity exercises and weight-bearing activities.
Third: Play some cognitive games, where the secret with these games lies in maintaining a steady intellectual diet and finding activities that stimulate you, whether they are word games or visual puzzles.
Fourth: Connect with others, and these interactions not only keep you connected with others but also ensure ongoing stimulation. The scientists say knowing that someone else is monitoring your progress, or even competing with you, can add an extra boost of reinforcement.
