Khaberni - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested more air defense systems and missiles during a phone call with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, believing that Russia is benefitting from the "internal" disputes of any country to strike Ukraine.
Zelensky posted on his Facebook page: "I spoke with President Emmanuel Macron (...) I briefed him on our priority needs, especially air defense systems and missiles."
Zelensky observed that "Russia is taking advantage of the current situation, as the Middle East and internal problems of each country attract the most attention."
He condemned the Russian strikes, describing them as "increasingly despicable," and added that he discussed "how to confront this" with the French president, who is currently facing an internal political crisis in his country.
Russia has recently intensified its night-time drone and missile attacks in Ukraine, particularly targeting energy facilities as winter approaches.
On Friday, one of the strongest Russian attacks on energy facilities in Ukraine resulted in plunging a large part of the capital and nine other regions into darkness.
Zelensky said on Sunday that "more than 3100 drones, 92 missiles, and about 1360 shells were fired at Ukraine" last week.
Zelensky's contact with Macron comes the day after his call with U.S. President Donald Trump, urging him to negotiate peace in Ukraine, after securing a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
In his call with Trump, he said, "If it's possible to stop a war in one region, it's certainly possible to stop other wars, including the war waged by Russia."
A UN report published on Friday shows that September was a harsh month in terms of civilian casualties in Ukraine, indicating a "disturbing trend of escalating violence" against them.
