Khaberni - The Cabinet decided in its session held on Sunday, chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, to approve an agreement for the transfer of funding amounting to 30 million euros between the Ministry of Finance and the German Development Bank; to support the desalination and water transfer project from Aqaba to Amman (the national water carrier), in addition to measures to support the integration of people with disabilities in the education sector in Jordan.
Out of this funding, 25 million euros will be allocated to the national water carrier project, and 5 million euros to support measures for the integration of people with disabilities in the education sector.
This agreement comes as part of government efforts to secure the necessary financing to implement the national water carrier project, which is one of the most important national strategic projects. The project will involve the desalination and transfer of water from Aqaba to the capital Amman, providing 300 million cubic meters annually; thus contributing to addressing water shortages and increasing water supplies to all provinces.
The national water carrier is the largest infrastructure project in Jordan, with a carrier line extending 450 kilometers from Aqaba to Amman, relying on reverse osmosis technology to desalinate 300 million cubic meters annually. This technology is a technical process for purifying and treating seawater, turning saline water into potable water.
