Tahboub Doubts the Methodology of the Government Confidence Poll

Khaberni - MP Dima Tahboub expressed her astonishment at the results of the latest opinion poll issued by the Strategic Studies Center at the University of Jordan, showing an increase in the confidence levels in the performance of Jaafar Hassan's government. She pointed out that these results do not reflect the general public mood, which is dominated by dissatisfaction and disapproval of the government's performance.

Tahboub stated in a post on her Facebook account today, Sunday, that "the field visits and meetings with citizens, in addition to interactions on social media, reflect a decline in economic, political, and social indicators, and an absence of any real feeling of noticeable improvement in people's lives," which she claims contradicts – according to her statement – the published survey results.

She added that the survey results, which indicated that 70% of Jordanians trust the government and 57% believe things are moving in a positive direction, necessitate a verification of the survey's methodology in terms of sample size, selection method, margin of error, and mode of administration, whether it was conducted in person, by phone, or online, warning that some social groups such as rural inhabitants and those with limited income might be underrepresented in phone or online surveys.

She also questioned the timing of the survey, whether it coincided with a political event or a significant government decision that might temporarily change public sentiment, considering that the absence of these essential details "makes it difficult to judge the accuracy of the results with a strict scientific standard," and suggesting that the survey is more of a mobilizing and media exercise than a precise research study.

In her analysis of the results, Tahboub explained that the economic optimism rate of 48% might reflect a slight improvement in the general mood but "does not mean that the living reality has actually improved," given the continued rise in prices, unemployment, and declining income.
She also noted that the citizens' lack of awareness of important governmental decisions, such as the medical insurance project at the Hussein Cancer Center, indicates a communication gap between the government and the community.

She considered that the wide support for reinstating the military service (95%) reflects a desire to strengthen discipline and national identity, but at the same time, "it points to young people looking for alternative solutions to the unemployment problem."

Tahboub emphasized the importance of "optimism and good faith," but she relayed the citizens' continual question: «How does all this positively reflect on my life?» She mentioned that she had posed a question to the government about its achievements after the first 100 days of formation and received only one response from a minister, while no response was given regarding her question about the debt burden, which reached about 65 billion dollars.
