Hamas The movement will not govern Gaza after the war

Khaberni - Agence France-Presse reported on Sunday, citing a source close to Hamas' negotiating delegation, that the movement will not participate in governing Gaza during the transitional period following the war, days after a ceasefire in the sector came into effect.

The source, who requested anonymity, stated, "For Hamas, the issue of governing the Gaza Strip is a concluded matter. Hamas will not participate at all in the transitional period, meaning that they have relinquished control of the sector but remain a fundamental component of the Palestinian fabric."

The source added that "Hamas agrees to a long truce and that no weapons will be used at all during this period unless in the case of an Israeli aggression on Gaza."

Israel and "Hamas," on Thursday, signed an agreement in Sharm el-Sheikh that paved the way for ending the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, which has lasted for two years. It includes a ceasefire and an exchange of Israeli detainees for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

However, the draft agreement did not mention some of the points included in President Trump's plan, which in its twenty points called for the disarmament of (Hamas) and for an international transitional administration (Peace Council), led by Trump himself, to govern the Gaza Strip after the end of the war.

Trump noted that the issue of (Hamas) handing over its weapons would be addressed in the second phase of the peace plan, which is said to be more challenging.
