Khaberni - The academic and advocacy community mourns the death of former Deputy Chairman of the Saudi Shura Council, Dr. Abdullah Omar Naseef, who passed away to the mercy of God this morning (Sunday), after a career filled with contributions spanning over five decades in the fields of education, research, advocacy, and national service.

His Birth and Education

The deceased was born in Jeddah in 1939, where he received his early education before joining King Saud University in Riyadh, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Geological Sciences. He then pursued higher studies abroad, obtaining a PhD in his scientific field, and subsequently returned as a university professor and prominent researcher in Earth Sciences.

His Contributions to the Development of Scientific Programs

Dr. Naseef progressed in his academic career until he became the president of King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, where, during his presidency, he contributed to the development of its scientific programs and the expansion of its colleges and research departments. He also worked on connecting the university with the community through pioneering scientific and cultural initiatives.

His Positions and Publications

The deceased was renowned for his significant efforts in the Muslim World League, where he held the position of Secretary General. He represented the Kingdom in numerous international conferences and forums, defending Islamic issues and advocating for dialogue and understanding among peoples and religions. He also served as the Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council during one of its terms, exemplifying wisdom, broad vision, and service to the national interest.

The deceased left behind a significant scientific and intellectual legacy of publications, lectures, and participations in conferences both within the Kingdom and internationally. He was distinguished by his moderate, balanced style and his continuous advocacy for moderation and coexistence, earning him wide respect among scholars and thinkers in the Islamic world.

His Noble Biography

Many public figures and academics have expressed their deep sorrow for his passing, praising his noble biography and his efforts in supporting education and charitable work, affirming that his death represents a great loss for the nation and the Ummah.

The Late Family

Prayers for him will be held this afternoon (Sunday) at Al-Juffali Mosque, and his body will be interred at Al-Asad Cemetery in Jeddah. The deceased is survived by his wife Hind daughter of Abdulwahab Banaagha, and his children Dr. Omar, Muhammad, Aisha, Khadijah, and Mahmoud. Condolences will be received at the family’s home located in Al-Shati district, Al-Khuzama Towers, Prince Faisal bin Fahd Street in Jeddah.
