Khaberni - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with his American counterpart over the phone about bolstering his country's air defenses.
The phone call came at a time when Kyiv declared carrying out a new strike deep in Russian territory targeting an oil refinery.
Zelensky said on Saturday that he discussed Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system during a "positive and constructive" call with his American counterpart.
Zelensky wrote on the platform "X," "We discussed opportunities to enhance our air defenses, in addition to concrete agreements we are formulating to ensure this. There are good options and valuable ideas on how to genuinely enhance (relations) between us."
Zelensky also mentioned that he congratulated Trump on his success in the Middle East.
Zelensky refers to Trump’s sponsorship of a plan that halted the war in the besieged Gaza Strip after two years of fighting.
The Russian depth is exposed
At the same time, a source in the Ukrainian security service told "Reuters" on Saturday that Ukrainian drones bombed a Russian oil refinery belonging to the company Bashneft in the city of Ufa, causing explosions and a fire outbreak.
The source added, "This is the third strike by the Ukrainian security service in Bashkortostan, which is 1400 kilometers from Ukraine, during the last month. These strikes show that the depth of the Russian Federation's territories is not out of reach for targeting."
With the end of the crisis in the Middle East, it is expected that Trump will pay more attention to the situation in Ukraine.
The American president, who has already held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin—his first since the war in Ukraine began—sought to broker a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv, but his efforts have not been successful.
NATO is on the move
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the main supporter of Ukraine, announced a 12-hour air sortie near the Russian border.
British Defence Secretary John Healey said: "This was a necessary joint mission with the United States and NATO."
He added: "This mission is not only necessary for providing essential intelligence information to enhance the operational awareness of our armed forces, but also sends a strong message about the unity of NATO to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and our adversaries."
An electronic surveillance aircraft of type RC-135 Rivet Joint and a maritime patrol aircraft of type P-8A Poseidon flew from the Arctic region, passing through Belarus and Ukraine on Thursday, supported by a KC-135 tanker aircraft from the U.S. Air Force.
