Khaberni - A new study has said that those who lacked practicing healthy habits during their twenties and thirties witnessed a tenfold increase in the risk of having a heart attack or stroke, compared to those who maintained healthy habits.
In this study from Boston University, researchers followed more than 4,200 individuals who participated in a long-term study on heart health.
The participants joined the study in 1985 and 1986, when they were between 18 and 30 years old, and they were followed for 20 years.
8 Healthy Habits
According to "Health Day", the research was based on 8 healthy habits included in the American Heart Association's guidelines.
The 8 recommendations include: eating healthy, engaging in more physical activity, quitting smoking, getting good sleep, controlling weight, cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure.
The results showed that those whose healthy heart habits decreased from moderate to low over time were 10 times more likely to suffer a heart attack, stroke, or heart disease.
Risk Assessment
The researchers found that every 10-point decrease in the score of adherence to the guideline's healthy habits over the 20-year study period increased the risk of heart disease by 53%.
Those who maintained moderate healthy heart habits were twice as likely to suffer from heart problems, while those with consistently poor heart health habits were almost six times more likely to suffer from heart problems.
