Khaberni - Prince William, the British Crown Prince, struggled with his tears while discussing the devastating psychological impact of suicide with a woman whose husband committed suicide. This occurred during a short film that was released by the British Royal Office today, Friday, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day.
In the film, the British Crown Prince spoke with Ryan Mannings, whose husband Paul committed suicide five days after the sudden death of their young son George due to an illness in 2012, in her home in Cardiff. They discussed the need for better support for those bereaved by suicide or affected by it in their lives.
A Tearful Question
Mannings founded the charity (Two Wish) to help those who have experienced the bitter loss of a child or a young person early in life. The impact was clearly visible on Prince William after he asked her what she would have said to her husband.
Mannings responded, saying: "I would just sit him down like this and say: Why didn't you come to me?" because he missed out on so much joy, and we would have been alright, I think that's the hardest part.. we would have been fine," and her response moved the prince to tears.
Mannings asked him "Are you okay?", and Prince William replied, "I'm sorry... it's hard to ask such questions that...", to which she said, "No, it's okay. The thing is you have children... it’s tough... and you have also experienced loss before."
Last year, William attended the funeral of Thomas Kingston, Prince Michael of Kent’s son-in-law, cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth, who committed suicide after suffering from side effects of medications.
The film was broadcast in conjunction with the launch by the Royal Foundation, the charity of William and his wife Kate, of the National Suicide Prevention Network which focuses on understanding the causes of the problem and providing support, and Prince William's office mentioned that Britain witnesses more than seven thousand cases of suicide each year.
