Khaberni - A number of people have died, while others remain missing, following an explosion that occurred this morning, Friday, inside an explosives manufacturing plant in the state of Tennessee, USA.
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said the explosion occurred at 12:45 GMT at a facility belonging to the company "Accurate Energetic Systems" near the town of McEwen, approximately 80 kilometers west of Nashville.
Davis clarified in a press conference that "the explosion resulted in fatalities and several missing persons," noting that rescue teams faced difficulty in reaching some parts of the site due to the risk of potential secondary explosions.
Local media reported that the sound of the explosion was heard several kilometers away, and firefighting teams rushed to extinguish the fires that had broken out in the building, while the surrounding area of the plant was evacuated as a precaution.
The company "Accurate Energetic Systems" specializes in manufacturing explosives and ammunition for military and industrial uses. The plant is one of the largest explosive manufacturing facilities in the state.
The authorities have not yet announced the cause of the explosion, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have begun an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.
