In a shocking incident, Al-Rass governorate in Al-Qassim region witnessed a painful incident after a 13-year-old girl was accidentally buried, following Al-Rass General Hospital's delivery of her body to another family under the impression it belonged to a 19-year-old young man. She was washed, enshrouded, prayed over, and buried without her real family's knowledge.
The details of the incident date back to last Saturday morning when the girl Sila Al-Hunaini passed away due to severe pneumonia, according to what her father, Khaled Al-Hunaini, told the media. He mentioned receiving a call from the hospital about his daughter’s death and went to collect the body, but faced a delay due to a malfunction in the electronic system.
After waiting for two hours, the body's details were verified through the wristband, and they were correct, so the family decided to postpone the prayer to the next day as they were in Mecca.
The next day, the girl’s father arrived at the mortuary ready to wash his daughter, only to discover that the body did not belong to Sila but to a 19-year-old young man.
The father explained that the hospital administration tried to conclude the matter by having him sign papers to close the file, but he strongly refused and demanded the truth of what happened be revealed.
In a swift development, Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, the governor of Al-Qassim region, directed the formation of an urgent committee to investigate the details of the incident and report the results immediately, with all those responsible being held accountable according to the regulations and instructions.
The Emirate of Al-Qassim region confirmed via its official account on the "X" platform that the prince emphasized the necessity of applying the highest standards of accuracy and responsibility in medical and administrative procedures concerning the rights of patients and their families, and to ensure that such grave errors are not repeated in the future.
The incident sparked widespread outrage on social networks, where citizens demanded tighter supervision over the procedures for handing over bodies and documenting identity inside hospitals and authorized mortuaries, emphasizing that such mistakes affect human dignity and necessitate a comprehensive review of the procedures followed.
