Khaberni - The Central Office for Corruption Suppression in Algeria issued 159 orders preventing departure from the country, resulting from the processing of 68 corruption cases.
The office published on its official website a summary of its activities for the period extending from 2020 to 2024, revealing that it received "5309 reports, while the number of cases processed was 68, with the testimony of 2696 individuals regarding them."
Based on this, the office issued "159 orders preventing departure from the national territory, in addition to 33 orders to freeze accounts and banking operations, and 16 orders to seize properties, not to mention 2048 national mobilizations."
A few days ago, the specialized court for corruption cases in Algeria sentenced the former Minister of Labor, Tijani Hassan Haddam, to seven years in prison, with an order for his imprisonment at the session, on charges including the embezzlement of about 45.6 million dollars when he was the director of the Social Insurance Fund between 2015 and 2019.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune - who was elected in December 2019 and re-elected in September 2024 - launched a widespread campaign to combat corruption that included ministers and former officials from the era of his predecessor, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
