Professor Dr. Khaled Al-Salem, President of the University of Science and Technology, welcomed today, Thursday, Her Excellency the Swiss Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Emilia Georgieva, accompanied by the engineer Mufleh Al-Alawin, advisor for cooperation and regional water diplomacy, where discussions were held on ways to enhance academic and research cooperation between the university and Swiss universities and institutions, especially in fields of mutual interest.

 

During which, Salem reviewed the university's journey, its vision, its mission, and the programs it offers, as part of the state's economic modernization vision, as well as future projects and ambitious plans aimed at serving the students, especially international students, and ways of cooperating in conducting joint studies and research.

 

Salem added: We at the University of Science and Technology strive to expand our network of international relations to serve our students and faculty members, enhance our status in research and innovation, and facilitate the exchange of scientific expertise for the benefit of both the educational process in Jordan and Switzerland.

 

Her Excellency the Ambassador confirmed during the meeting the depth and distinction of Jordanian-Swiss relations, pointing to her country's keenness on enhancing academic and scientific cooperation with Jordanian universities, and consolidating the partnership with the University of Science and Technology due to the significant overlap in medical and engineering programs between the two parties.

 

She also mentioned Switzerland's aspiration to expand cooperation in academic and research expertise exchanges, student scholarships, and organizing reciprocal visits for faculty members, which contributes to improving higher education in both countries, commending the university's prestigious academic reputation and its advancement in international rankings.

 

During her visit, the Ambassador toured the university's Water Diplomacy Center, learned about its programs and activities, and listened to an explanation about the center's objectives and its role in promoting water diplomacy concepts and building international cooperation in this vital area, in addition to its contribution to preparing students and empowering them with dialogue and negotiation skills in transboundary water issues.

 

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Salem emphasized the importance of opening broader prospects for academic and research cooperation between the university and Swiss scientific institutions, which contributes to supporting the educational and research process and exchanging expertise between both sides.
