Khaberni - The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security in the UAE and port security have defined a set of procedures that travelers to and from the UAE must adhere to ensure their safety and enjoyment of a risk-free trip, including disclosing financial amounts, luggage, and valuable gifts subject to customs duties, and some other goods subject to restrictions.

According to the customs procedures stipulated in the unified customs law of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, all travelers entering and leaving the UAE must disclose any carry-on currencies and financial instruments negotiable by the bearer, or precious metals or valuable stones exceeding 60,000 dirhams or its equivalent in other currencies. If exceeding this limit, they must fill out the approved form to disclose the cash amounts.

Personal possessions
Regarding gifts and personal possessions, the law has defined a set of conditions for the exemption of goods, including that the value of the gifts accompanied by the traveler must not exceed 3000 dirhams, and that the luggage and gifts must be of a personal nature and in non-commercial quantities, and that the traveler must not be frequent to the customs department or a professional trader of the materials possessed, and that cigarettes must not exceed the limit set (200 cigarettes), and that the quantity of tobacco must not exceed the set limit of shredded tobacco for smoking, or tobacco for waterpipes, or snuff or hookah. In case of exceeding the quantity, the excess quantity will be subject to the prescribed customs duties, and that the traveler must not be members of a transportation crew.

Prohibited goods
The list of prohibited goods include: drugs of all kinds, gambling devices and tools, fishing nets made of nylon, raw ivory, laser pens with a red beam, counterfeit and fake money, used and refurbished tires, materials contaminated with radiation and nuclear dust, prints and images, drawings, and stone carvings that are inconsistent with religion or public morals, asafoetida, and betel leaves or any other goods prohibited from importation.

Restricted goods
Entry of a number of restricted goods is allowed after obtaining approval from the competent authorities in the country, including live animals and plants, fertilizer and pesticides, weapons and ammunition, explosives and fireworks, medicines and drugs and medical equipment and devices, printed and published media products, nuclear energy-related products, new vehicle tires, transmission devices and wireless devices, alcoholic beverages, cosmetic and personal care products, raw diamonds, and manufactured cigarettes from tobacco.

In the case of restricted goods, approval must be obtained from the competent authorities for each type of good, namely: the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health and Prevention, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Ministry of Culture and Youth, Federal Authority for Nuclear Energy, Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Dubai Police, and the UAE Kimberley Office.
