Khaberni - OpenAI has stated that artificial intelligence may threaten the future of many jobs in the near future, after a new study revealed a list of the 44 professions most susceptible to replacement by artificial intelligence.
The study conducted by the developers of "ChatGPT" used a new test named GDPval, to compare the performance of artificial intelligence with human experts in nine of the most important economic sectors in the United States.
The results showed that artificial intelligence excels in some areas, particularly in the retail and wholesale sectors, where it outperformed human workers by more than 50% in completing assigned tasks.
The most affected were counter and rental employees, as artificial intelligence outperformed them in 81% of cases.
Professions such as sales managers, shipping and receiving workers, and editors topped the list threatened by artificial intelligence, with rates exceeding 70%.
The following are the most at-risk jobs for replacement by artificial intelligence according to the report:
- Counter and rental employees: artificial intelligence outperformed them in 81% of tasks, such as customer service and data recording.
- Sales managers: were defeated in 79% of cases by artificial intelligence, especially in tasks such as analyzing market data and formulating offers.
- Shipping and receiving workers: were defeated at a rate of 76%, as artificial intelligence can manage shipping schedules and track documents more efficiently.
- Editors and reviewers: artificial intelligence outperformed them by 75% in reviewing texts and creating content.
- Private investigators and legal consultants: were defeated at a rate of 70% by artificial intelligence in research and legal analysis tasks.
- Registered nurses: artificial intelligence tested their ability to evaluate skin images and create advisory reports, and the result was strong but less than some other occupations.
- Manufacturing engineers: faced artificial intelligence in the task of creating three-dimensional models of tools and equipment, and the competitive performance was good but varied.
The most affected sectors:
- Retail sector: artificial intelligence outperformed human workers by 56%.
- Wholesale sector: the dominance rate reached 53%.
- Government jobs: such as social compliance officers and social service workers, with a rate exceeding 52%.
The least affected sectors:
- The media and information sector, which includes film directors and journalists, with artificial intelligence's superiority rate only at 39%, indicating that these jobs rely more on creativity and human ability.
For its part, OpenAI said that its current best model, GPT5-high, achieved a winning rate of 48.8%, compared to only 12.4% for the GPT-4o model launched 15 months ago, reflecting the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technology and its proximity to competing with human capabilities in performing complex professional tasks.
Nevertheless, the company emphasized that these results do not necessarily mean the complete loss of jobs by humans, but rather indicate the potential for using artificial intelligence as a tool to support and improve daily work performance, especially in areas requiring precise data processing and analysis.
In a provocative comment, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, acknowledged his concern about the impact of artificial intelligence on the job market, noting that up to 40% of jobs could be affected in the future by reliance on automation.
