Khaberni - A new health study has shown that eating an apple before bed can be more beneficial than many expect, as this simple behavior can help improve sleep quality and support digestive health, as well as enhance immunity and reduce inflammation in the body.

According to the report published by health expert Julie Scott, consuming an apple as an evening snack can balance blood sugar levels, and contribute to calming the body before going to sleep.

Studies indicate that people who consume larger amounts of fruits generally sleep better than others, as apples contain fiber and polyphenols, which are natural compounds that help regulate energy and calm the body without the negative effects of caffeine.

However, Scott advises against eating apples too late at night, as it is better to eat them an hour or two before bedtime to avoid any discomfort in digestion or sleep disturbances, according to verywellhealth.

On the other hand, the study explained that apples contain natural sugars that might slightly raise blood sugar levels, but the fiber present in them slows down the absorption of these sugars, preventing any sharp rise or subsequent sudden drop.

Experts advise diabetics or those with blood sugar disorders to consult a doctor before incorporating apples into their nightly routine.

Apples also support digestive health, due to their content of pectin, a type of soluble fiber that acts as a "prebiotic" that nourishes beneficial bacteria in the gut. Research has shown that a diversity of good bacteria in the intestines is linked to better digestion, stronger immunity, and more stable mood.

The report indicates that regular consumption of apples can also help reduce chronic inflammation due to their content of antioxidants and plant compounds that lower inflammation markers in the body, contributing to long-term general health enhancement.

An additional benefit is that eating an apple at night can curb the desire for unhealthy snacks, as the fiber provides a sense of fullness that lasts longer compared to sugary or processed meals.

Conversely, experts advise taking care of dental health after eating apples, as their sugars and acids can lead to decay or enamel erosion if left on the teeth during sleep. It is recommended to brush your teeth about 30 minutes after eating an apple to protect the enamel from erosion.

Scott concludes her report by emphasizing that eating an apple before bedtime is not a magical cure in itself, but a simple step within a balanced lifestyle that includes healthy nutrition, sufficient sleep, regular water intake, and daily stress management.
