Khaberni - Togolese international Samuel Asamoah suffered a neck fracture after colliding with an advertising board next to the pitch during a local match in China, according to his club, which expressed concern about the possibility of him being paralyzed.
Video footage shows the 31-year-old player being pushed by an opponent during a match held on Sunday in the Chinese First Division, as they competed for the ball, causing him to directly hit his head on an electronic advertising board.
The Guangxi Pingguo club from the second tier, where Asamoah plays, stated that "the latter suffered neck fractures and nerve damage, and subsequently underwent surgery."
The club revealed on Monday in its statement that "he is at risk of upper partial paralysis, and will miss all remaining matches this season. His football career may also be seriously affected."
Later, the club mentioned that Asamoah is recovering from the surgery and is currently in stable condition.
The Chinese club continued, "Guangxi Pingguo would like to express its sincere thanks to all fans and all sectors of the community for their concern and support for Samuel Asamoah."
