Khaberni - In an incident that shook the Syrian street, the city of Latakia witnessed a horrific kidnapping operation yesterday morning, Wednesday, as unidentified gunmen kidnapped the child Mohammed Qais Haider (14 years) in front of his school in the Tenth Project district, in front of his classmates and passersby.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to local media, a silver car stopped in front of the school, from which four armed men got out and kidnapped the child at gunpoint before fleeing to an unknown location, amidst a state of panic among the students and residents. The witnesses confirmed that the gunmen issued threats to shoot anyone who attempted to pursue them.

The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced in an official statement that the Internal Security Command in Latakia province is directly monitoring the case, stating that it has instructed the relevant authorities to take immediate action and start investigations and information gathering to identify the perpetrators, confirming that field efforts are ongoing "around the clock" to free the child and apprehend the culprits.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social platforms in Syria, where activists and residents of the city called for a general strike today, Thursday, that includes the closure of shops and refraining from sending children to schools in response to the recent increase in kidnapping incidents.

The emergency group in the Tenth Project has declared a general alert, calling on residents to cooperate and provide any information that could help locate the kidnappers. It is noted that the child Mohammed is the son of university professor Qais Haider and teacher Mona Haider.

Tweeters called for "immediate and decisive action to stop such attacks," with one commenter writing: "The child was kidnapped in front of the school, who guarantees the safety of our children tomorrow?"
