Khaberni - A Palestinian official informed about the indirect negotiations that took place between Israel and Hamas in Egypt this week about President Donald Trump's peace plan in Gaza reported that the agreement reached at dawn on Thursday includes Hamas’s one-time release of 20 living detainees held for two years in the Palestinian sector.
The official told AFP, requesting anonymity, "The agreement includes Hamas delivering 20 Israeli living detainees all at once in the first phase of implementation."
A source in Hamas, informed about the negotiations, also told AFP that the exchange of Israeli detainees in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails "will occur within the first 72 hours" of starting the implementation of the agreement reached in Cairo at dawn on Thursday.
The first phase of the agreement includes, according to Hamas sources, "the exchange of living Israeli prisoners and the release of 250 Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment and 1700 detainees arrested after October 7, 2023, and scheduled Israeli withdrawals."
President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had signed the first phase of the peace plan, clarifying that all detainees would soon be released, and that Israel would withdraw its forces to a mutually agreed line in preparation for a "strong and permanent peace."
Trump added via the Truth Social platform, at dawn on Thursday, that all parties would be fairly treated, describing the day as "great for both the Arab and Islamic worlds, and for Israel, and for the United States," thanking Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their role in achieving what he described as "the historic and unprecedented event."
