Artificial Intelligence Uncovers Astonishing Secrets About the Heart of the Black Hole

Khaberni - Artificial intelligence has managed to decipher some of the secrets of black holes, diving deep into their depths in an astonishing scientific precedent through a comprehensive scientific theory that combined the two biggest contradictions in the history of physics.

PRX Quantum journal published a study in which a research team led by physicist Enrico Rinaldi used quantum computing and artificial intelligence to simulate the hidden quantum structure within black holes, without needing to breach the event horizon—the boundary that no light can cross.

Physicists are trying to reconcile the general theory of relativity, which describes gravity on a large cosmic scale, with quantum mechanics, which governs the behavior of minute particles, the two fundamental pillars of modern physics that remained separate until this study, known as the "theory of everything."

Rinaldi explains that relativity describes spacetime without the particles, while the standard model describes the particles without gravity, making their integration a continuing dilemma for decades.
However, thanks to artificial intelligence and the principle of holography, it is now possible to link a three-dimensional gravity system with a simpler two-dimensional quantum system — a step that brings scientists closer to understanding the structure of the universe itself.

A Mathematical Window into the Depths of the Universe

The team relied on what is known as matrix models derived from string theory, which describes particles as tiny vibrating strings that form the essence of black holes.

Using quantum computing and neural networks, the researchers were able to simulate the ground state of these models—the lowest energy state in the system, believed to encode the nature of spacetime itself.

Understanding the Origin of Spacetime

Rinaldi says, "Understanding the ground state of the quantum system is akin to knowing the nature of the material—whether it conducts electricity, is superconducting, or something we have not seen before."

The scientists confirm that this study represents the first practical evidence of the possibility of using artificial intelligence to understand what happens inside black holes, which may open the door to developing a unified theory of quantum gravity.

Breaking the Boundaries of Physics

For the first time, artificial intelligence not only analyzes data but also breaks the boundaries of physics itself to reveal what was previously impossible to see, and today we are closer than ever to knowing the shape of spacetime from the inside—and whether black holes are the keys to understanding the origin of the universe itself.
