Khaberni - The Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni revealed that she and two other ministers have been summoned to appear before the International Criminal Court on charges of complicity in genocide connected to the Israeli attack on Gaza.
In an interview with the state television network "Rai," Meloni added that the Ministers of Defense Guido Crosetto and Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani were also referred, pointing out her "belief" that Roberto Cingolani, the head of the Leonardo defense group, will also face trial.
This is the first time that Italian officials of this level have faced an official referral to the International Criminal Court over the war in Gaza, where there has been increasing European calls for investigating the violations committed since the onset of the Israeli attack nearly two years ago.
Recently, a "guerrilla war" erupted in front of the "Leonardo" company in Turin, the capital of the Piedmont region, northwest Italy, in support of Palestine and in condemnation of the Italian defense industry group's complicity in the Israeli bombing of Gaza.
It is worth mentioning that in November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and the former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of committing war crimes in Gaza.
In September last year, the UN commission of inquiry mandated by the Human Rights Council issued an urgent report acknowledging that Israel committed "genocide in Gaza."
