Ancelottis former teammate breaks the record for the oldest player in Italy

Khaberni - Lamberto Boranga broke a record after becoming the oldest player to play a match in Italy at age 82 after participating in a seventh division league game.

The veteran goalkeeper returned to football after joining US Di Treviana.

The team, playing in the seventh division, signed the 82-year-old goalkeeper in the most recent transfer window, noting that Boranga's last game was in 2019.

Boranga participated for the first time with his new team in the match that Treviana lost 10-0, and the goalkeeper was substituted during the game.

Boranga conceded five goals, and his substitute, 26-year-old Maurizio Rossi, also let in another five.

After the game, Boranga said about his performance: "I made two mistakes, but I made three or four good saves."

The Italian began his career in 1961 and played more than 100 matches in the Italian first division, wearing the jerseys of prestigious clubs like Fiorentina and Parma.

During his time with Parma in the Italian league, he was a teammate of Carlo Ancelotti, the current coach of the Brazil national team, and Boranga was 36 years old when Ancelotti joined the team.

The veteran goalkeeper first retired in 1993 before returning to the fields in 2009, played until 2015, then took a three-year break, and played one last season in 2019.

Boranga earned a degree in medicine, and also previously pursued athletics, setting the record in the triple jump in 2012, and is scheduled to participate in the European Masters Athletics Championships in Madeira this month.
