Trial of Mawaddah AlAdham on charges of money laundering in Egypt

Khaberni - Egyptian blogger Mawaddah Al-Adham faces a new legal chapter, after investigative authorities decided to refer her to trial on charges of money laundering.

This comes at a time when she is serving a six-year prison sentence at a rehabilitation center, following her conviction for posting video clips with a 13-year-old girl on social media.

Her sister Rahmah Al-Adham confirmed that Mawaddah does not possess any financial balances in her bank accounts, noting that the family had to borrow money to cover the lawyer's fees tasked with defending her, clarifying that Mawaddah has been serving her sentence since the verdict was issued, and does not own any electronic means of communication that would allow her to manage her pages or post new content.

In a related context, Mawaddah Al-Adham's family filed an official report with the Internet Crimes Unit against an unknown person who took over her social media page and posted indecent images and clips, in addition to superimposing her pictures on inappropriate scenes to achieve financial gains and increase viewership.

Rahmah Al-Adham explained that the infiltrating party exploited her sister's fame to earn illicit profits, asserting that Mawaddah has no connection to the content currently posted on her official pages. She urged the competent authorities to quickly arrest the involved parties and refer them for investigation, considering what happened as a deliberate attempt to tarnish her sister's reputation and exploit her current legal status.
