Khaberni - The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Monday the suspension of the export of green olives for this season due to the expected decrease in production quantities, as part of its effort to enhance the added value of agricultural products within the local market.
Agriculture Minister Saeb Khraisat explained that despite the ministry's continuous effort to open up foreign markets to the Jordanian agricultural product, which positively impacts the trade balance, this is in line with the current production conditions.
He stated that the decision was made in consultation with the General Union of Jordanian Farmers, the Jordanian Association of Olive Products Exporters, and the General Union of Mills Owners and Olive Producers in Jordan, given the expected decrease in olive productivity this year due to climate changes.
Khraisat also mentioned that the ministry will continue to monitor production quantities and take all appropriate measures to ensure that olive oil is available to consumers at the right quality and price.
