Khaberni - French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu submitted his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron today, Monday, according to an announcement by the Elysee Palace in a statement, deepening the entrenched political crisis in the country.

Lecornu was appointed on September 9, and faced criticism from opponents and the right after revealing his government lineup on Sunday evening, which is the third in the country within a year.

French President Emmanuel Macron appointed a new government yesterday, Sunday, headed by Lecornu, in an attempt to pull the country out of an entrenched political crisis.

Macron revealed the new government lineup nearly a month after assigning Lecornu, who is the seventh Prime Minister during Macron’s presidency and the fifth in his second term.

Bruno Le Maire, the former Minister of Economy between 2017 and 2024, returned to the government after being appointed in the Ministry of the Armies.

Roland Lescure was appointed Minister of Economy, and thus faces the daunting task of drafting the budget.

Deep crisis
Many of the previous government's ministers retained their positions, such as the Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barrot. The Interior Minister Bruno Rotaiyo also remained in the government, who pledged to combat illegal immigration, and the Minister of Justice Gerald Darmanin.

Rachida Dati - who will be tried next year on charges of corruption - also remained in the government as the Minister of Culture.

Interior Minister and leader of the conservative Republicans party, Bruno Ritaio, expressed his dissatisfaction with the new government lineup and announced an emergency crisis meeting of the party today, Monday.

Culture Minister Rachida Dati warned the party against withdrawing from the government, and said in a post on the X platform on Sunday evening that "at a dangerous moment the country is going through, the Republicans must not shirk their responsibility."

France suffers from a deep political crisis since Macron risked calling for early legislative elections last year in an attempt to strengthen his power, but this move led to a fragmented parliament among three feuding parliamentary blocs.

The previous two governments led by Francois Bayrou and Michel Barnier fell in parliament due to the proposed austerity budget.
