Khaberni - Freeport Mining Company announced the death of all seven workers who were missing following a mudflow disaster at the Grasberg copper and gold mine in Indonesia, after five more bodies were discovered.
A massive mudslide weighing 800,000 tons inundated the mine on September 8, trapping seven workers and halting operations at the Grasberg mine for nearly a month. Freeport-McMoRan stated that it expects a decrease in combined copper and gold sales during the third quarter.
Freeport announced that it continues to investigate the causes of the accident and is working closely with the Indonesian authorities to assess the incident and develop future operational plans.
