Lukaku reveals reason for involvement in altercation

Khaberni - Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who plays for Napoli, admitted that he almost got into a fight during a match for his son's team, after feeling insulted by a comment from one of the parents.

Lukaku said in a Belgian podcast that the incident occurred four months ago during a children's tournament at the Standard Liège academy, adding: I was watching my son and talking with some old friends, when one of the parents came over and asked for a photo, I agreed and told him: Let’s take a quick photo, but don’t tell anyone.

The Napoli player added: Moments later, another man came over and sharply commented: If you don’t want to take pictures with everyone, you should have stayed at home.

Lukaku continued: I took off my hat and approached him without thinking. I really wanted to punch him, but I held back at the last moment. I realized I was acting like my father, who was also quick-tempered.

Lukaku explained that he tried to clarify his position saying: I told him that I had never seen my son play football before, and this was the first time I attended his game, so why say something stupid like that? I was fed up with it.

Eyewitnesses confirmed to the Belgian newspaper Sudpresse that Lukaku was indeed angry, but the incident did not escalate into a physical altercation after the supervisors intervened to defuse the situation.
