Khaberni - The son of the famous musical duo Ike and Tina Turner passed away in a Los Angeles hospital due to kidney failure, following a rich musical career and a Grammy Award.
Ike Turner Junior, the son of the late global singer Tina Turner and the late musician Ike Turner, died at the age of 67, in a Los Angeles hospital on Saturday, October 4.
Jackie Bulock, a family member of the Turners, confirmed to TMZ that the death was due to kidney failure, noting that his health had deteriorated in recent years due to severe heart problems, and that he had suffered a stroke during the past month.
Family Statement
In a statement conveyed by Bulock to Page Six she said: "With great sadness we announce the death of my cousin Ike Turner Junior. He was not just a cousin to me, but more like a brother, as we grew up together in the same well-known family home."
Bulock added that Ike Junior was surrounded by family in his final days, while his family or representatives had not issued any official comment until Sunday, October 5, according to People magazine.
Ike Junior belonged to a prominent musical family; he was one of Ike Turner's children from his previous relationship with Lorraine Taylor, and was officially adopted by Tina Turner alongside his brother Michael.
Tina Turner gave birth to one son by Ike Turner, named Ronnie Turner, and was also the mother of her son Raymond Craig from her previous relationship with musician Raymond Hill.
Tina Turner passed away in May 2023 at the age of 83 after a long illness, while Ike Turner the father died in December 2007 at the age of 76 due to a cocaine overdose.
Ike Junior was preceded in death by his brothers Craig, who committed suicide in July 2018, and Ronnie, who died from colon cancer in 2022.
Musical Talent and Career
Jackie Bulock recalled Ike Junior's musical memories in her speech, saying: "As the son of Tina and Ike Turner, his musical talent was evident from childhood, as there was no musical instrument he didn’t strive to play."
She added that his mother encouraged him to discipline in art from a young age, saying: "Despite his love for drums, Tina Turner insisted on dismantling the drum set after every practice, which later led him to focus on keyboard instruments. Over time, he took part in managing the Bulock Sound Studios that his father founded."
Awards and Artistic Achievements
Bulock continued her speech saying: "Despite the challenges he faced, Ike Junior became a prominent sound engineer and musician, and won a Grammy Award in 2007 for Best Traditional Blues Album in recognition of his contribution to his father’s album, Risin’ With The Blues."
She concluded her statement by expressing the family’s gratitude, saying: "We thank everyone for the condolence messages and sympathies we have received from around the world."
On her part, Avid Turner, wife of his late brother Ronnie Turner, posted an emotional message on her Instagram account mourning the deceased, saying: "Rest in peace Ike Junior, you were a wonderful brother. I’m glad I spoke with you on the phone before your departure. I love you. Rest in peace,"
She accompanied her words with several pictures of them together over the years, in a farewell that encapsulates the family's love and enduring artistic legacy.
