Khaberni - Saudi Arabia is seeking to consolidate its status as a pivotal logistics hub on the global trade map, as part of Vision 2030 which aims to enhance the efficiency of supply chains and the kingdom's position as a major corridor connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa.
In 2023, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched the master plan for logistic centers to develop 59 centers with a total area exceeding 100 million square meters by 2030.
According to Saudi channel "Al Sharq", the value of investments directed to the transportation and logistics sector until 2034 is about 1.6 trillion Riyals (427 billion USD), including partnerships with the private sector and a number of countries.
The plans included signing contracts for allocating container areas in 8 Saudi ports with investments of 2.2 billion Riyals (587 million USD), added to previous agreements that raised the investments in the ports to 16 billion Riyals (4.3 billion USD), in addition to projects for establishing 20 new logistic zones with investments of 10 billion Riyals (2.67 billion USD).
It was mentioned that King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, expected to open next year, represents a major pillar for the expansion of the air freight sector. The plans target the airport to handle 3.5 million tons of cargo annually by 2050, and 120 million passengers by 2030.
The project spans an area of 57 square kilometers, including 6 runways and logistic facilities linked to economic areas.
In the field of terrestrial infrastructure, Riyadh is focusing on the "Land Bridge" project, which will connect the east of the kingdom to its west through a railway line that facilitates the movement of goods and reduces reliance on maritime transport.
Work is also ongoing on the "Gulf Link" project to connect the Gulf Cooperation Council countries with a modern train network, a step aimed at supporting multimodal transport and enhancing regional integration.
The kingdom is seeking to attract foreign investments, as "Aramco" and "DHL" announced the establishment of a logistics distribution center in Dammam at a cost of 1 billion Riyals (267 million USD), while "Maersk" expanded its presence in Jeddah port with an investment of 1.3 billion Riyals (347 million USD).
"FedEx" completed its transition to direct operations in Saudi Arabia in September 2025 after obtaining an economic air carrier license.
