Khaberni - The pungent smell of durian fruit led to the calling of the firefighting department four times last Saturday in the city of Wiesbaden in western Germany, where residents feared a gas leak.
It is noted that the smell of the fruit, which is grown in Southeast Asia, resembles the smell of gas.
The firefighting department was first notified last Saturday evening to be present at a shopping center, where there was a report of a gas smell, but measurements did not detect any gas presence nor was there a gas connection in the building.
Emergency services were called again to the shopping center, where a gas smell was reported once more. During the search in the stores, firefighters found the fruit in an Asian store. Firefighters said that the ventilation system in the shopping center had distributed the smell throughout the building.
During another operation in a residential building later in the evening yesterday, firefighters determined that the durian fruit was responsible for the gas smell there.
