JordanianMoroccan Agreement on the Transfer of Convicted Persons

Khaberni - In the framework of enhancing the strong fraternal relations between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Kingdom of Morocco, the Ministry of Justice headquarters witnessed today the signing ceremony of two important judicial agreements, the first concerning the transfer of those sentenced to penal sanctions, and the second regarding mutual legal and judicial assistance in criminal and penal matters.

The agreements were signed on behalf of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan by the Minister of Justice Dr. Bassam Talhouni, representing the Jordanian government, while they were signed on behalf of the Kingdom of Morocco by the Minister of Justice Mr. Abdel Latif Wahbi, representing the Moroccan government, in a scene that reflects the shared keenness to solidify the frameworks of bilateral cooperation and enhance the legal and judicial partnership between the two brotherly countries.

In a statement following the signing, Talhouni confirmed that the Jordanian-Moroccan relations are historical and established, grounded by the late His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal, may God bless his soul, and His Majesty King Hassan II, and have deepened over the decades in various fields, and today, thanks to the royal directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein and his brother His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this step represents an important milestone in the journey of legal and judicial cooperation between Jordan and Morocco, pointing out that the new agreements will open wider prospects for the exchange of legal and judicial expertise and information, and support the efforts of both countries in consolidating the rule of law and combating cross-border crime.

Talhouni added that these agreements enhance the joint efforts in crime prevention and the development of judicial cooperation mechanisms, through facilitating investigative processes, exchanging information, and executing judgments, in addition to organizing the process of extraditing the wanted as per the national laws in both countries and relevant international systems, thereby achieving justice and enhancing community security.

On his part, the Moroccan Minister of Justice appreciated the depth of the fraternal relations that bind the two kingdoms, praising the joint cooperation achieved in various fields, confirming that these agreements are a practical translation of the determination of both countries’ leaderships to embody the spirit of partnership and enhance legal and judicial ties in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
These agreements embody the political and legal will of both Jordan and Morocco to build effective and ongoing partnerships in the judicial and legal arenas, which contributes to supporting international efforts aimed at combating crime and enhancing justice.

 

It is noted that the Moroccan Minister of Justice Mr. Abdel Latif Wahbi is on an official visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, during which he observes various Jordanian experiences and conducts several visits to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in legal and judicial fields, and exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
