Khaberni - The famous Nigerian presenter Somtochukwu Christel Maduagwu, known as "Sumi," tragically died in a tragic accident after she fell from the third floor while trying to escape from armed robbers who stormed her apartment in the Nigerian capital Lagos.
The horrific incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when a number of thieves raided the 29-year-old presenter's apartment, prompting her to jump from her apartment balcony in a desperate attempt to escape.
The police found her unconscious, and she was rushed to the hospital, but she succumbed to her serious injuries.
The Nigerian police confirmed that they had formed a special unit to investigate the incident and pursue the perpetrators of the crime who fled after raiding the apartment and stealing its contents, noting that the investigations are still ongoing to uncover the circumstances of the attack.
For its part, ARISE News, where the deceased worked as a news anchor and producer, announced in an official statement the news of her death, saying: "With hearts wrung with pain, the management and staff of ARISE News mourn our beloved colleague Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who passed away on Monday morning following an armed robbery at her home, and the investigation is still ongoing to determine the perpetrators."
The channel launched a website to receive messages of condolence and tribute, where hundreds of messages have poured in from her admirers expressing their deep sorrow, describing her as an "exceptional personality, lover of life, a strong advocate for women's and girls' rights, educational reform, and social justice."
