Khaberni - This morning, Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation - Water Authority, the Water and Irrigation Minister, Engineer Raed Abu Al-Saud, signed the consultancy services agreement for preparing and procuring tender documents and monitoring the implementation of non-revenue water reduction projects in Mafraq Governorate, in partnership with the private sector as performance-linked projects. The signing was attended by the Secretary-General of the Water Authority Engineer Sofian Al-Batayneh and several senior water officials. The project, valued at 4.5 million euros, is funded by the German Development Bank KFW as part of the continuous efforts of the non-revenue water reduction program.
Engineer Raed Abu Al-Saud stated that this project is among the government's priority projects aimed at improving services provided to citizens and implementing the economic modernization vision, as well as being part of the Water Authority's plans and the National Water Strategy 2023-2040. It focuses on improving water management efficiency, reducing loss and waste, and ensuring the sustainability of water services.
The minister explained that the project, implemented by the engineering consultancy firm Engicon, includes developing a strategy and an executive plan for non-revenue water reduction projects in Mafraq. It involves restructuring the networks, rehabilitating and replacing water lines, installing residential and main meters, introducing digital control systems for pipe replacement prediction and efficient network management, providing modern equipment for leak detection to ensure quick response and addressing network breaks, and offering supervision services to ensure standards for environmental, social, and health compliance, as well as providing necessary support, training services, and capacity building for Yarmouk Water Company to enhance the technical capabilities and efficiency of the networks.
The Water and Irrigation Minister praised the Jordanian-European cooperation, especially with the German Development Bank kfw, appreciating their contribution to securing the necessary funding for the execution, and expressed the Jordanian government's and water sector's gratitude and appreciation for their substantial and continuous support.
