Khaberni - Mohammad Bani Yasin, chairman of the Jerash Greater Municipality Committee, unveiled that the municipality has prepared a study for the lighting of the archaeological site in Jerash aimed at making it a major tourist attraction and contributing to increasing visitor numbers and extending their stay within the city.
Bani Yasin stated that the study aims to comprehensively light the archaeological site, which would directly impact the local community's economy through the municipality’s women's empowerment unit.
He added that the plan includes organizing a monthly event to light the site with candles, which will be made by local community women as part of supporting home-based and artisanal projects within the province.
Bani Yasin mentioned that extending the duration of a visit helps increase spending within the city, which positively reflects on the local economy, affirming that the project aims to enhance tourist movement in the historical city of Jerash.
Bani Yasin revealed there is a study for an environmental and tourism project on the Jerash-Mafraq road that spans 600 meters in length and 40 meters in width, including the creation of gardens, pathways, and bicycle tracks, indicating that the municipality will soon offer the project for investment.
He explained that the municipality has jurisdiction over about 83 tourist lodges, which it seeks to license and regulate, noting that two lodge owners have submitted official applications and have been licensed.
