Over the past months, the company has been implementing gradual updates, before confirming today that all these additions are now available to the application users across various platforms.
According to the official announcement issued by WhatsApp blog, these updates aim to "enable users to express themselves more deeply and facilitate interaction".
Highlights of the new updates in WhatsApp:
1. Sharing Live Photos and Motion Photos
iOS users can now send Live Photos, while Android users support the Motion Photos feature. These photos are displayed with their movement and sound, instead of being converted to static shots as before, making them closer to reality.
2. Document Scanner on Android
The update has added for Android users an option to scan documents directly from within the app by selecting "Document", without the need for external applications, making it easier to share contracts, invoices, and official documents.
3. AI-powered Chat Themes
Users can now create custom chat backgrounds by writing a simple description, which artificial intelligence converts into an immediate design. The application also provides ready-made sets of AI-generated backgrounds for easier usage.
4. Smart Backgrounds for Video Calls
Users can now change their background during video calls or when capturing photos and clips within the chat, using Meta's artificial intelligence technologies, giving them greater freedom in choosing the environment they appear in.
5. Advanced Search within Group Chats
It is now possible to search by any person's name within the "Chats" tab, and the application will display all the groups that include you and them, which facilitates finding conversations instead of remembering the complex group names.
6. New Stickers for Fun Interaction
WhatsApp has added two new sticker packs: "Fearless Bird" and "Vacation", to bring a more fun and interactive flair to the conversations.
It is expected that these features will gradually reach users over the coming days and weeks, depending on the device type and application version.
