Khaberni - Preliminary results of implementing the Ministry of Health’s plan to reduce MRI waiting times showed a significant increase in the number of MRI scans performed in September 2025, with 14,327 MRI scans carried out in government hospitals covered by the plan, compared to a previous monthly average of just 5,700 scans, an actual increase of 8,627 scans.
The Ministry of Health began implementing a comprehensive plan starting from the first of September 2025, aimed at increasing the operational capacity of MRI devices, especially in hospitals suffering from backlogs in waiting lists, such as Bashir Hospital, New Salt Hussein Hospital, Zarqa Government Hospital, Princess Basma Hospital, and Karak Government Hospital.
The plan included extending working hours in these hospitals in addition to hospitals (Tutunji, Moath bin Jabal, Ramtha, and Nadeem) to include evening shifts (Shift B) and activating Saturday working hours, as well as starting imaging in some hospitals from six in the morning, with the goal of maximizing possible operational capacity.
Minister of Health Dr. Ibrahim Al-Badour confirmed that these results reflect the success of the plan in its first month, as the goal of the program was to add 7,000 scans, but with a distinguished effort, we reached 8,627.
Al-Badour explained that the ministry will continue to carry out monitoring and evaluation operations on a regular basis, with the aim of ensuring the continuity of improvement in service levels and reducing waiting times. This is within a policy that relies on organizing medical requests according to precise and well-considered priorities. He also indicated that new instructions will be issued to organize the mechanism of requesting MRI scans by doctors, ensuring the optimal use of resources and providing the service to the deserving according to clear standards.
