Khaberni - The renowned British actress Patricia Routledge, famous for her role as the pretentious social climber "Hyacinth Bucket" in the famous comedy series "Keeping Up Appearances", has died at the age of 96.

According to what was reported by "Variety" magazine about the agent of the star "We feel deep sadness as we announce the death of Mrs. Patricia Routledge, who passed away peacefully in her sleep this morning, surrounded by love."

He added: "Even at the age of 96, Mrs. Patricia did not lose her passion for her work and her desire to connect with audiences, and new generations of viewers continued to discover her through her beloved television roles. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her and by her audience around the world."

Routledge was born in northern England near Liverpool, and she began her career on stage in Britain and the United States, where she won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 1968 for her role in the play "Darling of the Day", and twenty years later, won an Olivier Award for her performance in the play "Candide".


Despite her great success in theater, her wider fame came through the small screen, especially through the character "Hyacinth Bucket" who insisted on pronouncing her surname as "Bouquet" in the series "Keeping Up Appearances", which aired between 1990 and 1995.

Despite ending after only 5 seasons, it became one of the most successful British productions and widely disseminated globally, enjoying wide popularity in the United States, Canada, Australia, and several European countries, and in 2016 it was rated as the most exported program in the history of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

In 1991, Routledge won the British Comedy Award for this role, and was nominated for two British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards in 1992 and 1993.


After her success in comedy, Routledge led the mystery series "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates" which aired between 1996 and 1998, where she portrayed a retired woman with a talent for solving mysterious cases.

In 2017, Routledge received the title of "Dame" from Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of her significant contributions to the entertainment field and charity work.
