Jordan Sets New Conditions for Vehicle Import Starting November 1

Khaberni - The instructions for the new procedures for matching vehicles to be imported into Jordan, whether used or new, which will come into effect from the coming November 1, and published in the Official Gazette, prohibit the import and display of vehicles classified in the country of origin as salvage or junk, or those that have suffered major accidents such as flooding and fire, and vehicles previously used as taxis, police cars, or for school transport.

The instructions also ban the import of vehicles whose chassis have been altered, obscured, or falsified, vehicles with right-hand steering, and vehicles with engines modified from gas to petrol or diesel.

The instructions obligate the importers to provide the necessary documents and certificates to prove the compliance of new vehicles, which are the European type-approval certificate, the European type-approval certificate for limited production, the Gulf conformity certificate, the Saudi model approval conformity certificate, and the vehicle data document fulfilling federal safety specifications.

The instructions also require importers to conduct an inspection of the vehicles through a designated electronic inspection service and submit technical documents that comply with safety requirements.

The government had approved a set of regulatory decisions for the vehicle sector on June 28 of last year, which reduced customs duties on hybrid and petrol vehicles, unified them for electric vehicles, and banned the import of electric passenger vehicles (small) that are over 3 years old, including the year of clearance.
