Khaberni - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said on Friday that global food commodity prices fell in September, affected by a decline in sugar and dairy products prices.
The average of the organization's food price index, which tracks monthly changes in a basket of internationally traded food commodities, was 128.8 points in September, down from a revised reading of 129.7 points in August.
The index rose 3.4 percent from the same month last year.
In a separate report, the Food and Agriculture Organization raised its forecast for global grain production in 2025 to 2.971 billion tons from 2.961 billion tons it had forecasted last month.
The organization said the latest estimates mean an increase of 3.8 percent from last year's production and represent the largest annual rise since 2013.
The adjustment upwards was attributed to increased production forecasts for wheat, corn, and rice.
