Grandson of Al Ahly President Sells Gamal Abdel Nassers Watch at Auction

Khaberni - Egyptian sources revealed on Thursday that one of the rare watches, which belonged to the late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, will be put up for auction globally organized by the famous "Phillips" in Geneva, Switzerland, scheduled to take place on November 8th.

The watch, a 18-karat rose gold Rolex "Day-Date," holds a special historical value as it was a gift from the late Kuwaiti Minister Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah to Abdel Nasser, who kept it for years before gifting it in the late 1960s to Salah El-Dsouki Shishtawy, the former president of Egypt's Al Ahly Club and a fencing champion who participated in the 1948 and 1952 Olympics.

After Shishtawy's death in 2011, the watch passed to his grandson, who decided to put it up for international auction. It is estimated at 50,000 Swiss Francs, equivalent to 62,000 US dollars, according to the auction house.

"Phillips" stated in their announcement that the watch is not just a luxurious piece but represents "a living testament to history, and the changes in one of the most important eras in Egypt and the Middle East."

It is worth noting that this is not the first time a watch that belonged to President Abdel Nasser has been auctioned globally. Last December, another of his watches was sold at "Sotheby's" in New York for 840,000 dollars, after being offered by his grandson Khaled Abdel Nasser, who then confirmed that the watch was a gift from his mother Tahia Kazem to his father, before passing down to him as a family heirloom.
