Khaberni - Turkish goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır shone by blocking a penalty three times, contributing to his team Lille's French victory over their host Roma Italian 1-0 in the second round of the "Europa League" soccer competition on Thursday.

Lille owes its victory at the Olympic Stadium to its goalkeeper Çakır, who imposed himself as the star of the match after he saved a penalty taken three times, awarded by the referee in the 81st minute after reviewing the video assistant referee (VAR) to confirm a handball on the Algerian Issa Mandi inside the box, taken by the substitute Ukrainian Artem Dovbyk to the goalkeeper's left who saved it.

The referee demanded the retake of the penalty due to Lille players entering the box before it was executed, Dovbyk took it again and Çakır blocked it once more in a similar scenario, before the referee demanded the third retake due to the goalkeeper leaving his line, and Çakır excelled again by blocking the shot from the young Argentine striker Matias Soule who shot the ball to the right side.

Roma had begun its journey in the competition, where it was runner-up in 2023, with a valuable win against its host Nice French 2-1, while Lille defeated Brann Bergen Norwegian 2-1.

Lille, coming off two consecutive losses in the league, ended a streak of three consecutive wins for its host in various competitions.
