Khaberni - Tourists confirmed that the increase in Jordanians' spending on tourism abroad is due to several reasons, among which are the price differences provided by the countries to which Jordanians travel within comprehensive programs.
These tourists agreed that the cost of tourism in Jordan is high and does not match the incomes of the Jordanians generally, which is why Jordanian tourists resort to traveling abroad on some occasions.
They highlighted that some Jordanian tourists have changed their travel destination from Turkey to other countries due to the increased cost of trips there in the recent period.
They explained during separate talks that the relevant authorities should support domestic tourism and organize comprehensive tourism programs at prices suitable for citizens' incomes, according to Al-Ghad.
Omar Abdo, a tourism and travel company owner, said, "The Jordanian citizen resorts to traveling abroad for tourism in light of the high prices in the kingdom and the absence of organized comprehensive tourism programs."
Abdo confirmed that the Jordanians prefer to travel to Egypt and Azerbaijan
and Georgia, in addition to Turkey, which has seen a decline in demand after the rise in tourism costs there."
Abdo emphasized the current weakness in the demand for trips abroad, especially since mid-August, coinciding with the return to schools.
Kholoud Al-Hammouri, a trip organizing official at a tourism office, said that "Jordanians' inclination to travel abroad is due to the high costs of tourism in the kingdom."
Al-Hammouri confirmed that the Jordanians tend to travel to Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, and Kosovo, noting that Jordanian tourists are distancing themselves from the Turkish market after a noticeable increase in tourism prices there, hence they seek these markets as an alternative.
She mentioned that once the visa requirements for Jordanian citizens traveling to Russia are lifted, the Russian market will experience a significant increase in demand from Jordanian tourists.
Al-Hammouri stressed the necessity to support internal tourism to bolster the tourism sector, in addition to the relevant entities working on promotion
and marketing to attract as many visitors as possible to the kingdom.
Mohammad Nasr, the director of a tourism and travel office, agreed with his predecessors about Jordanians preferring to travel abroad due to the difference in tourist prices in Jordan, which has led to an increase in tourism spending numbers.
Nasr said that the Jordanian tourist now prefers to travel to various regions in Egypt or to Georgia, in addition to Azerbaijan, which has drawn his interest in the past two years due to reasonable prices with the beautiful nature in that country.
He confirmed the significant decrease in the levels of traveling abroad since last month due to the start of the school year and the end of the season for traveling abroad.
It is understood that tourist expenditure is what is spent by Jordanian tourists traveling outside the kingdom.
Preliminary data announced by the central bank recently showed an increase in expenditure on tourism abroad during the first eight months of the current year by 4% compared to the same period last year.
According to the data, the amount spent by Jordanians on tourism abroad exceeded 1.443 billion dollars, where August 2025 experienced an increase of 4.5%, reaching 196.8 million dollars.
