Israeli official Detention of over 400 activists aboard the Steadfast Fleet

Khaberni - An Israeli official confirmed on Thursday the detention by the navy of more than 400 pro-Palestinian activists who were aboard 41 ships as part of the "Steadfast Fleet" that carried aid to Gaza.

The official told the French news agency, "In an operation that lasted about 12 hours, Israeli naval forces thwarted a widespread infiltration attempt carried out by hundreds of people aboard 41 ships who declared their intention to breach the legal maritime blockade imposed on Gaza Strip.

He added, "At the end of the operation, more than 400 participants were transported to Ashdod port, where they are being interrogated by Israeli police."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Israeli naval forces on Thursday for intercepting the aid convoy that attempted to break the blockade Israel imposes on the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu said in a statement, "I commend the soldiers and officers of the navy who carried out their mission with the highest levels of professionalism and efficiency. Their significant efforts prevented the entry of dozens of boats into the conflict zone and thwarted attempts to delegitimize Israel."

Israel faces international condemnation and protests after its forces intercepted the "Steadfast Fleet" en route to the Gaza Strip.

Footage from cameras broadcasting live from the boats showed Israeli soldiers in helmets and night vision goggles boarding the boats, while passengers gathered side by side, wearing life jackets and with their hands raised.
