Khaberni - The Government Media Office in Gaza Strip announced today, Thursday, that only 1,824 aid trucks out of an expected 18,000 entered the sector during last September, and most of them were looted with the help of the occupation.
The office stated in a release, "This number of trucks constitutes only about 10% of the actual humanitarian needs for more than 2.4 million Palestinian citizens in the sector, including more than one million children."
The Palestinian statement noted that these trucks "were exposed to looting and theft amid the security chaos created by the Israeli occupation through a policy of engineering starvation and chaos, in a blatant attempt to undermine the resilience and will of our Palestinian people."
The office asserted that the Israeli occupation continues to impose a stifling siege on the Gaza Strip as part of a systematic policy aimed at engineering mass starvation, by completely closing the crossings for more than 7 months, preventing the entry of aid trucks in sufficient quantities, and obstructing their access to those in need.
It added, "The occupation also completely shuts down the northern outlet (Zikim) and repeatedly closes the Kussofim (central) and Kerem Shalom (south) crossings, which serves as a direct aggressive tool for starving the population and depriving them of the basic elements of life."
On the other hand, the office said the occupation prevents the entry of 430 types of basic foods needed by children, the sick, and those starved. This includes depriving the civilian population of hundreds of other varieties.
The prohibited items are: table eggs, red and white meats, fish, cheeses, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, nutritional supplements, in addition to dozens of other varieties such as enhancers needed by pregnant women and the sick, according to the same source.
The Government Media Office stated that the sector needs more than 600 trucks of various aids daily to meet the minimum needs of 2.4 million people, amid a near-total collapse of the infrastructure due to ongoing war and extermination, indicating that the systematic siege has led to the collapse of the purchasing power among the residents.
The office affirmed that more than 95% of the citizens do not have the ability to buy goods and merchandise even when they are sometimes available in the markets, a situation that exacerbates levels of poverty and hunger and makes human life in Gaza Strip almost impossible.
The Palestinian Media Office’s statement charged Israel and its allies, headed by the United States, with "full responsibility for the humanitarian disaster," calling on the United Nations, Arab and Islamic countries, and the international community for "serious and real action to open the crossings and ensure the flow of aid, especially food, infant milk, and life-saving medicines, and to hold the occupation accountable for its crimes against civilians."
