Khaberni - Dr. Ahmed Hasooneh, known as the “Doctor of the Poor and Needy”, was physically assaulted inside his private clinic in Al-Baqaa camp, Tuesday morning, by an individual with a criminal record, following his demand for a “protection money” payment of 8,000 dinars.

Hasooneh stated, during a broadcast on Hayat radio, that the assailant entered his clinic holding a “scalpel” in his hand, and demanded the money under threat, threatening him with beating and killing if he did not comply.

He added: “I attempted, along with some patients in the clinic, to plead with him to leave, but he persisted with his threats, then approached me and attacked me, hitting my face causing a deep 8 cm wound”.

He noted that this attack has caused him psychological and social harm, especially given his status as a doctor serving the poor and the needy.

Hasooneh confirmed that the security forces have arrested the assailant, while one of his accomplices fled. He urged the authorities to expedite the capture of the accomplice and take deterring measures against anyone threatening the safety and lives of citizens.

Dr. Hasooneh is one of the well-known doctors in the area of Al-Baqaa and Ain Al-Basha and is highly respected among the residents, due to providing free or symbolic treatment to a wide range of patients from low-income groups.
