Khaberni - A new Chinese study has shown that night shift workers are more susceptible to the risk of kidney stones.

The increased risk ranges from 15% to 22% for those working outside regular working hours (from 5 to 9 hours).
Office jobs

According to "Health Day", the study found that the risk was higher, at 22%, for night shift workers, especially if they were younger or worked in office jobs.

The research team from Sun Yat-sen University analyzed data from 220,000 people from the UK Biobank records, covering a 14-year follow-up period.

Risk Enhancing Factors

The researchers said that smoking, poor sleep, lack of physical activity, overweight, and insufficient fluid intake, are all factors linked to an increased risk of kidney stones.

They added, "The impact of shift work on the sleep-wake cycle - known as circadian rhythms - likely also contributes to the increased risk."
