Khaberni - The Head of Licensed Wedding Officials in Egypt, Islam Amer, stated that many girls choose customary marriage to preserve their pensions, pointing out that the marriage of minors often occurs through counterfeit officials without legal documentation.
Amer spoke in an interview with "Direct Question" on Al Arabiya channel, about the proliferation of fake officials who exploit some people's lack of awareness to make financial gains, emphasizing that these forgers do not have the authority to officially document marriage or divorce contracts.
Amer clarified that customary marriage is legally correct, especially in remote areas. The marriage is conducted legally without official registration, which leads to legal problems, such as the inability to register births, and the legal non-recognition of the marriage.
In the context of famous cases, the Head of Licensed Wedding Officials mentioned that the actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz was married legally to the media personality Poussy Shalabi and officially divorced, then remarried legally.
He also affirmed that the law criminalizes the documentation of minor marriages, and this type of marriage often happens legally through fake officials without legal documentation.
Further clarifying that mentally ill patients have the right to marry unless their condition is proven to be too dangerous. A mentally ill patient in a dangerous condition is not allowed to marry legally. Those lacking capacity are prohibited from marrying regardless of whether they meet the legal requirements.
