Khaberni - Traditional Asian medicine knows the role of food and beverage temperature, and a recent U.S. study confirmed this relationship for the first time, finding it linked to anxiety, insomnia, and measurable digestive disorders.

The research team from San Diego State University reported that increased consumption of cold beverages in the summer was associated among Asian participants with increased anxiety, sleep disorders, and feelings of a full stomach.

Hot drinks and depression
Conversely, European-American participants who consumed hot beverages in winter reported decreased levels of depression, improved sleep quality, and digestive symptoms. According to "Medical Express", the research was based on data from the San Diego State University's Healthy Aging Survey, which investigates new risk factors and health disparities among the US population.

Cold hands
The study also found that the effects were more pronounced among participants who frequently reported cold hands, a potential indicator of poor circulation.

A subgroup analysis revealed that Chinese participants, who consumed fewer cold foods and beverages, suffered fewer side effects, while Indians showed a stronger correlation between the consumption of cold drinks and negative health effects.

Although Western dietary guidelines rarely consider the temperature of food and beverages, the findings reflect the established practices in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, which caution against excessive consumption of cold drinks.
