Khaberni - Representative Irini Said, a member of the Health Committee in the House of Representatives, confirmed that the session was convened at an exceptional time that reflects the officials' concern for constitutional rights, starting with the President of the Republic who exercised his constitutional right to comment on some articles of the Criminal Procedures Law.
She added during a special meeting with Extra News, that the House of Representatives welcomed these amendments, which were limited to only seven articles, approximately 0.14% of the total articles of the law, which is a small percentage compared to its size and importance as the Criminal Procedures Law is considered the "second constitution of the country." She emphasized that any amendment, even to a single phrase or word, could significantly impact the law.
She pointed out that the amendments proposed by the President were very precise, confirming that he has read the law in full detail, asking for the government to be given more time to implement it, including alternatives to preventive detention, which reflects his commitment to raising the level of freedoms and achieving broader justice.
She explained that the President of the House of Representatives, Counselor Dr. Hanafi Gebali, also affirmed his support for the political leadership, and the parliament's alignment behind President El-Sisi, especially in his positions regarding Gaza, noting that the council referred the amendments to the General Committee which met twenty minutes after the session, intending to present its report for final voting in the upcoming session.
Representative Irini Said confirmed that the President's observations came to bolster the rights of the accused and expand the alternatives to preventive detention, stressing that this does not mean the rejection of the law as some have suggested, but quite the opposite, praising the President for the efforts of the parliament and its president.
She stressed that President El-Sisi is always a step ahead of the street towards freedoms, and listens to the voices of citizens and the opposition before the loyalists, considering this a commendable act that reassures and confirms that Egypt is moving towards the new republic with steady and confident steps.
