Khaberni - Dr. Valeria Lumova reported that the liver lacks nerve endings, making the early stages of its diseases often without clear symptoms. However, there are hidden signs that may indicate the presence of the problem.
Dr. Lumova has concluded that most liver diseases go unnoticed without clear symptoms for long periods, so she recommends consulting a liver disease specialist at least once a year for prevention and early detection.
Lumova clarifies that there are hidden signs that may indicate liver problems, including:
Change in the color of the palm and the appearance of spider veins.
Itching skin, tendency to swell, frequent nosebleeds, and bruises that appear easily after minor trauma.
Loss or gain of weight, loss of appetite, constant drowsiness, quick fatigue, nausea, and difficulty concentrating.
The doctor advises undergoing laboratory tests that include: reduced levels of platelets and hemoglobin, and testing for urobilinogen in urine.
She notes the need to consult a doctor immediately upon noticing more obvious symptoms, such as:
Jaundice of the skin and whites of the eyes.
Enlarged liver on palpation, bitter taste in the mouth.
Dark urine or altered color of stool.
Severe weakness, swelling, or mental confusion.
She added that alcohol consumption, fatty liver disease, and viral hepatitis are among the most common causes of liver damage, and the uncontrolled use of medications, dietary supplements, herbal extracts, and some types of viral infections pose an additional risk to liver health.
